Instructions to Make a Paper Ornament or Origami Orb
Start by coloring 3 strips of paper. You can mix and match designs or use the same design for one orb. It takes 3 strips of paper to make one orb (ball).
1. Roll the paper around like a loop. Hold the ends together at an angle and insert the lower tab into the slot.
2. Push the tab down as low as possible, rotate slightly, then insert the other tab into the slot.
3. Push the paper so the ends are aligned to form a tidy loop.
Take a second sheet of cardstock and make a second loop in the same way.
4. Insert the second loop into the first loop. Take note of the location of the seams where they ends of the loop meet.
Hide the seam from loop 2 under the paper from loop 1.
5. Insert the 3rd cardstock under loop 2.
6. Insert the other end of the 3rd cardstock so it is under loop 2 (and over loop 1). Loop 3 will keep the pieces together.
7. Insert the tabs of loop 3 together as shown in steps 1 through 3.
8. Pull and nudge the 3rd loop so the seam is under the 2nd loop. If you did this right, the seam of the 1st loop should be covered by loop 3. If not, you can shuffle the loops until all the seams are hidden.
9. Fold and pinch along the scored lines. You may need to nudge the loops slightly so the corners and edges align.
10. Continue to fold an pinch all the scored lines to complete the origami orb!
Instructions to Add a Ribbon
To convert the Origami Orbs into a hanging ornaments, you will need to add a ribbon or string.
1. Connect 3 strips of paper as shown above but do not fold along the curved creases. Get a ribbon or string and tie a large knot at one end of the ribbon.
2. Insert the knot into the hole at the corner of the orb.
3. Fold along the curved creases and create the orb as shown above.
4. Done! The large knot stays inside the orb and prevents the ribbon from separating from the orb.
